A Good Girl's Guide to Murder// Holly Jackson

💥Hello July!💥

Coming up next for August is When it All Burns, by Jordan Thomas. We have several copies on the way, but just in case you don't need a copy and you haven't already let me know, would you please leave me a quick note in the comments below so we can keep the call list updated? Thank you for your help!

Onward!

The case is closed. Five years ago, schoolgirl Andie Bell was murdered by Sal Singh. The police know he did it. Everyone in town knows he did it.

But having grown up in the same small town that was consumed by the crime, Pippa Fitz-Amobi isn't so sure. When she chooses the case as the topic for her final project, she starts to uncover secrets that someone in town desperately wants to stay hidden. And if the real killer is still out there, how far will they go to keep Pip from the truth…?

This book was just OK for us. While we mostly found it to be a quick read (and we like that for summer!), it was also noted that it was very typical Young Adult (YA) fiction... meaning it was predictable, a bit superficial, and not all that believable in places. We were thankful it wasn't gory or filled with foul language, but we just didn't love it, and no one was interested in reading any more of this 3-part trilogy... where would the story go from here?

Generally, we felt like the book was too long, and also had too many characters to try to keep straight... maybe the two are related? Some of us figured Mr. Ward was too good to be true, and that the entire plot twist with the girl in the attic was unnecessary to the story. We found it curious that everyone Pip spoke with easily confessed every bad thing they'd ever said, done, or heard about with ease. Could she really solve this and the police couldn't? We had our doubts.
